“She shines, burns unbroken through all registers, her
virtuosity is breathtaking.”
Hailed as "a revelation" by Euronews, Romanian soprano Adela Zaharia has quickly established herself as one of the most in demand sopranos of our time. Known especially as a belcanto and Mozart specialist, critics and audiences alike are raving about her "impeccable control of the voice", "lush instrument", and "powerful interpretation".
Her winning of Operalia World Competition in 2017 was followed by contracts with most of the major opera companies in the world - highly acclaimed performances as Lucia di Lammermoor ( Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin), Donna Anna in "Don Giovanni" (Royal Opera House London, Paris Opera, San Francisco Opera), Violetta Valéry in "La Traviata" (Dutch National Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, Deutsche Oper am Rhein), Gilda in "Rigoletto" (Teatro Real Madrid, Los Angeles Opera), Konstanze in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" (Staatsoper Hamburg, Oper Frankfurt), Pamina in "Die Zauberflöte" (Teatro Liceu Barcelona, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Komische Oper Berlin) and others.
Adela is also an accomplished concert singer, having performed with various orchestras and philharmonics works such as R. Strauss "Brentano Lieder", "Carmina Burana" by C. Orff, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Requiems by Mozart, Brahms and Fauré, Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang", Mozart concert arias and the world premiere of Iain Bell's "Aurora" at the BBC Proms Royal Albert Hall, together with Liverpool Royal Philharmonic. Her performance of Mahler's 4th with the Tonkünstler Orchester Vienna can be found on CD and major streaming platforms.
She is passionately involved in working with the new generation of singers, acting as jury president in singing competitions and teaching masterclasses when the occasion arises.
Current season engagements include her highly anticipated debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York as Musetta in "La Bohème", returning to Teatro Real Madrid and Deutsche Oper Berlin with one of her signature roles - Violetta Valéry in "La Traviata", and a new production of "Don Giovanni" directed by Kiril Serebrenikov at Komische Oper Berlin.
